At the time of the War of the Dwarves and Orcs (2793-2799 Third Age) Beregond was the ruling Steward of Gondor. Only rumors of the great war reached his land; that is until fleeing Orcs tried to settle in the realm. "There was fighting for many years in the dales before that danger was ended" (p. 334, The Return of the King).
