Frodo, Sam, and Gollum continued on their path. The land was dead silent and Gollum grew wary as the trees thinned out. As the day ended Frodo asked Gollum where they were. "'Dangerous places. This is the Road from the Tower of the Moon, Master, down to the ruined city by the shores of the River. The ruined city, yes, very nasty place, full of enemies'" (p. 306, The Two Towers). That would be Osgiliath. Gollum felt they had travelled too far out of their way by taking Farmir's advice. While the road did not have an evil feel to it Frodo knew they must now be careful. Sam asked for a rest for they had travelled all day and Gollum reluctantly agreed saying they must now travel by night in these lands. They found a hiding place, ate a little, and rested while they could.
